Members of Barnet Copthall SC were again very pleased to provide help at the London Borough of Barnet Primary Schools Championships which were held at our pool this afternoon. The meet was this year sponsored by GLL who provided all the medals and awards and it was organised as in previous years by the ever efficient Dierdre Donlevy of GLL.
Twenty three schools from the borough of Barnet took part including several schools competing for the first time - welcome to them. The schools are divided into two groupings - those with over 300 pupils and those with under 300 pupils and there is a trophy for best team in each division.
The 300- division looked at first as if it was going to a school competing for the first time - Trent CE Primary - who were in the lead after 6 events. In the end they were a very creditable joint third with Akiva with Goodwyn and Kerem fighting it out for first place. We are very pleased to congratulate first time winners Kerem School who ended with 158 points, three ahead of Goodwyn in second place.
The competition in the 300+ division was very tight with the top three places being separated by only one point. Third place Cromer Road had 153 points, second place Moss Hall Junior School had 153.5 points and first place Brookland Junior - congratulations to them -had 154 points! This is why ALL the swims are important not just the swimmers finishing in first place - a swimmer who turns up and gains a few points for their school in a stroke which is not necessarily their favourite can make all the difference between winning the trophy or not!
There is also an award to the most improved school compared to previous years and this year this went to Moss Hall Junior School - well done on a huge improvement!
We hope that everyone enjoyed their afternoon at Barnet Copthall and that maybe some of you will consider taking your swimming a stage further and joining our club!
