Many congratulations to the Middlesex Masters team who beat Hampshire by 2 points in the Inter-Counties held at Barnet Copthall this afternoon.
The Middlesex team was managed by Copthall masters swimmer, Adam Freer and several Barnet Copthall swimmers represented Middlesex. Well done to Sean, Jim, Adam B, Phil, Judy, Neil P, Sue P, Christine, Natalie, Elaine, John and Cate. The event was organised by Ian Woollard who apparently only finished entering the hundreds of competitors into his computer at 2am on Sunday morning. The results service on the day was provided by Copthall's Sarah Lawlor - as you can see, there was a huge Copthall involvement in the gala.
Hampshire had led by 2, 3, 4 points for most of the competition with Middlesex clawing a few points back in one race only to lose a couple in the next. After the penultimate race, the scores were equal and so all depended on the final event, the squadron relay (12 x 25m freestyle, 6 men, 6 women, a representative from each age group). Middlesex took an early lead in this relay and never relinquished it .... and the trophy was theirs.
The results from this meet will be put together with the results from similar events held around the country and an overall ranking of counties will result. Sadly for Middlesex the squadron relay doesn't count in this ranking. Fingers crossed!
