Team Bath Grand Prix - meet report

(Better late than never, sorry but I was a bit occupied with the Club Champs last week plus have only just received the Hy-Tek version of the results to update our database)

Fifty Barnet Copthall swimmers were in Bath (along with thousands of people there for the Christmas market!) last weekend for the Team Bath Grand Prix. At the end of the three days of competition the club came away with the Top Visiting Team award and 19 National Qualifying times as well as scores of medals.

Many congratulations to the following swimmers on their long course NQTs:
Emily Bell: 800 free (10:10.69); 1500 free (19:44.61)
Charlie Boldison: 100 back (1:00.12); 200 back (2:11.26)
Nicola Burlingham: 100 back (1:09.98); 200 back (2:31.21)
Lauren Chapple: 100 fly (1:06.56)
Randal Cliff: 50 free (25.29); 100 back (1:02.26)
Oliver Keegan: 50 free (26.15); 100 fly (1:00.66); 200 fly (2:13.50)
Erin Nabney: 200 breast (3:04.67)
Karolina Siwiec: 100 back (1:08.68)
Maddy Tichborne: 400 free (4:40.90); 800 free (9:31.30); 1500 free (18:21.28); 200 back (2:28.82); 200 IM (2:31.25)

There were some excellent results over the whole gala from many swimmers. Yaron Ash entered 7 events, won gold in all 7 and PBd in all 7! As well as her NQTs, Emily Bell won a gold and a bronze and bettered her times in all 6 events she entered. Charlie Boldison won 4 gold medals and must be pleased to gain two NQTs as a 17 year old - an age he reaches only a few days before 2009 Nationals. Nicola Burlingham's two NQTs in the backstroke won her gold medals in those events - she also won gold in the 200 IM, 200 free and 50 back. Angelina Filippone swam PBs in all 7 of her events. Oliver Keegan won 3 golds and 3 silvers as well as qualifying for 3 events at Nationals. Henry Yau was first in 3 events and PBd in all five he entered. Other gold medal winners were: Jo Zambelli (200 IM), Maddy Tichborne (200 back), Jamie Richter (400 free and 1500 free), Shannon Powell (50 free), Jessie Porter (100 free), Kim Liu (100 breast and 200 breast), Jodie Hare (50 fly).

There were 8 club records - well done to the following swimmers:
Yaron Ash (12yrs): 50 free in 27.75lc
Charlie Boldison (16yrs): 50 fly in 26.67lc
Lauren Chapple (15yrs): 50 fly in 31.15lc
Oliver Keegan (14yrs): 50 fly in 27.51lc
Shannon Powell (12yrs): 50 free in 29.54lc and 50 breast in 37.99lc
Jamie Richter (12yrs): 800 free* in 9:39.52lc
Maddy Tichborne (13yrs): 1500 free in 18:21.28lc

* not 1500 free as previously announced - he's fast but not THAT fast!

And finally, well done to the whole squad for turning out to support their fellow swimmers in the finals. I gather that the meet ran quite late and I'm sure that tiring swimmers needed that extra push that the cheers from poolside gave them.
